Makerspace builds on a constructivist ideology to form a constructivist and constructionist approach to education, as introduced by Jean Piaget and developed by Seymour Papert. The primary goal of both constructivism and constructionism is to have learners create their own knowledge by creating and interacting with physical objects. It has clear connections to media literacy as well as to self-directed learning. Innovative researchers, and those who wish to see schools develop 21st century learners with the skills to work in today’s multidimensional career settings, know constructivism and constructionism are necessary methods.
Maker Map -
Students in a soil science course used the makerspace to create informational maps. Presented at 2023 Mira Conference.
Sculpture - Sculpture students combined drone data, digital sculpting, and makerspace tools to design and print draft sculptures for the University.
Japanese Animatronic - Students in the 200 level Japanese courses learn how to write and speak Japanese by programing animatronics. Presented at 2022 Mira and ISAM Conferences.
Student Work - Students use the Makerspace for a variety of projects.
Teaching Tools - Future Teachers in the MALT classes used the equipment in the Makerspace to create teaching tools and tell stories through animatronics.

Hispanic Heritage Month - University community members came together in the Makerspace to create and learn about Sugar Skulls and Papel Picado, paint flags from Hispanic countries, and get a key chain for Cultura (a university club)
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month – University community members came together in the Makerspace to create and learn about lei’s, paint Asian and Pacific Island flags, see past student projects, and learn hula.
First Generation - First Generation students came to the Makerspace to create coasters and decorations for the 2022 Homecoming event
